Someone in France tried to name their kid “Bob l’Eponge” and a judge refused to allow it

Still better than the dipshit that got stopped from calling their kid “Nutella”

That must be the European French version. In Québec, the threat of anglicisation is too great to allow him to keep an Anglo-Saxon name like Bob, so it’d be Jean-Bertrand l’Éponge or something.

On the plus side they were probably very good at saying “A few moments later” with the proper accent.

I genuinely remember asking “pourquoi ils ne l’appelent pas SpongeBob aussi?” to whoever made those French dubs. It kinda made me pretty confused.

And yes, I was an avid SpongeBob fan back in the day. Not so much anymore.

You are correct. Stuff like this can be funny in the correct context like “2westerneuropean4you” or similar. But anglos repeating it on and on is not only toxic and xenophobic, it’s also incredibly unfunny and uninspired.

The prejudice that we are likely to mistrust or stereotype people who are different than us / not in our tribe? The one that is biologically hardwired into us and can’t only be beaten with legitimate focused effort? That shite and tired prejudice?

Holy shit, you solved it! So we tell the children everywhere that it’s not the neolithic age anymore, and they will all rightly override the old parts of their brains and not tease each other for being different!

With any luck, they’ll also realize they won’t need wisdom teeth and decide not to grow those either.

              I’m guessing you’re American.

It’s ok that you have a misunderstanding about how different nationalities interact with eachother in Europe

The whole of western Europe has this level of sarcasm that an American brain can’t even fathom, and a love for their fellow Europeans that you definitely can

We will absolutely rip the piss out of eachother, and pretend we hate the very sight of eachother, then upon meeting a person of a different nationality, spend the entire night drinking and laughing and taking the piss, and the next day comparing national hangover foods

Americans read sarcasm as aggressive because they are, Europeans read sarcasm as a joke because they are 😂

              TL/DR Fuck you

Hum, I’m French living in France and my son is only allowed to watch shows if they are in English. Is he going to be bullied?
