The biggest thing you can do to make your property a target for theft is advertise you’re into guns.

Criminals love stealing guns. Especially since some people keep thousands of dollars worth of guns sprinkled around their house, and gun owners like this are unlikely to write down/register serial numbers.

It’s also insanely easy to fence them. There is a robust used market and resources to advertise anonymously and they hold value well.

The only thing stupider would be something like:

The only reason I don’t own more guns is my wife loves diamonds. I also inherited a large amount of bearer’s bonds and don’t believe in safety deposit boxes.

There’s a reddit sub that is a bit 4chan, everytime someone posts their stupid bugout truck the most upvoted comment is ‘when the zombie Apocalypse happens I’m going for you first because I know you have guns and supplies’.

It’s one of the only things I miss about reddit, they were bonkers in a usually entertaining way.

It’s fascinating seeing people who might as well have big signs on the backs of their vehicles that say “hey! My house is full of expensive stuff and I’m gone on the weekends!”

Yeah, you can probably find a study to back it up

But it’s a well known joke even in gun communitie that those are just “rob me stickers”.

Anyone with those stickers is an idiot with a gun. So rational people avoid them and the owners think it’s because they’re tough. Meanwhile criminals check to see if there’s a gun in it when it’s unoccupied or follow them home and rob them when the truck (it’s always a truck) is gone.

Is this even technically theft? Seems like more of a “free samples, please take one” situation lol
