A Texas man shot four family members including his eight-year-old niece, before turning the gun on himself, authorities have said.

Alrick “Shawn” Barrett, 46 opened fire at a home in suburban Houston just before 7am on Saturday, killing his estranged wife, her two siblings, and the young girl.

The incident occurred after Barrett returned his young child from a visit, Fort Bend County Sheriff Eric Fagan said at a news conference on Wednesday.

Mr Fagan said that after arriving at the home, Barrett told his estranged wife that he wanted to reunite, but she refused.

Could have told you his whole story without even looking at the article. Unstable alpha male gets humbled when his woman leaves him for beating her, douchebag can’t take it and would rather kill her, his kids and everyone else before admitting he’s a bastard undeserving and unworthy of the love she gave him. Oh and living in a state/country where previous calls of domestic violence don’t get your guns taken away even though every fucking story where an ex-spouse gets killed there was ALWAYS domestic violence beforehand

It’s so nuts that domestic violence does not get guns removed from a house in many states.

And yet getting caught with weed, otherwise legal or not, immediately ensures your guns ate removed (as far as i know as a non American)

        Is it?

“No person shall be […] deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law […].” - 5th Amendment

I read the article but didn’t see a mention of domestic violence, only a verbal argument. Did I miss something?

        Domestic violence isn’t just hitting.

Last January, authorities had responded to a disturbance call because of a verbal argument between Barrett and his estranged wife.

Whatever it was about, the “verbal argument” was so loud or bad that someone called the cops. Maybe your definition of verbal abuse is different than mine, but I guarantee you that if you’re shouting, or getting shouted at, loud enough for someone to call the cops, there’s a non-zero chance that verbal abuse is taking place.

Yet another disgusting headline. I’m ready for the gun culture in America to make a change.

First we’d have to get rid of the propaganda that keeps the fear and entitlement well stoked in the sizeable minority that support the Gun Ownership Party – we’ll call it the GOP for short – and the foreign cash that funds it, and I don’t see the GOP letting go of that any time soon.

Hey, my ex, convicted of domestic violence, never saw a day in jail, and bought a gun the minute he could get his record expunged, making sure to show it to the kids so they would pass it on to me.

This from the guy who claimed to hate guns to the point he’d refuse to talk to anyone who owned them.

I feel so bad for his poor wife.
