  • My experience is the reverse, prebuilts seem to pack i7s and i9s (or ryzen equivalents) into gaming-centric designs way more often than I’d expect. Pretty sure they’re appealing to uninformed shoppers who think “big number good” even when the cpu cost difference would be better spent on a stronger gpu and maybe even RAM that doesn’t have shit timings, for once. Hard to hate on the companies for doing what people do seem to want, or on people for not wanting to get in-depth with hardware just to play some PC games, but it does make me wince a little to see people end up with machines that are badly optimized for their use cases.
    (I know OP will never see this, just trying to drive engagement on lemmy)





  • I ran it (bg3.exe) through the latest vanilla proton (9.0.1 I think?) earlier today and it had no issues. I used the experimental version for character creation and it had some fucked up textures (color banding mostly), but after switching it ran perfectly in the stable version. I’m running thru steam on a nvidia gpu, so hopefully on amd you’ll be fine if you try that.
