There is a scene from a series called Joan of Arcadia (a truly undervalued series from the early 2000s) where Joan asks teen boy God to show her a miracle, and he points to a tree. She says “that’s just a tree” and he replies “Lets see you make one”

Do you believe in magic?

I think I’m going to have to disagree with Terry here. Something is Magic if it has no other explanation other than “it’s magic” (or I guess the explanation is at least something paranormal that doesn’t have a logical explanation itself).

As soon as you can logically explain how something works it’s no longer magic. Just a phenomenon that we understand.

But also, magic isn’t real. Someone might call something magic if they don’t understand how it works. If they understood it they wouldn’t call it magic.

If I am being entirely honest, I don’t understand how electricity works. Or cars. Or nuclear power.

I mean – I know it’s not a witch that makes power come into my house, but I have never needed to understand how electricity actually works. But does that make it magic to me because I don’t understand it?

Also – on an entirely different side of things – I don’t get how people paint. I know you can put coloured ink or coloured oil on canvas, but as to how you turn that into art (The Mona Lisa, The Haywain, Sunflowers)? That bemuses me completey.

      Is that magic?

So yeah – I think that you can view as magical, because you have no explanation for them. Even if someone else does.
