I’m not sure what I am most impressed by: (1.) The quality of play on the ice (2.) The sell-out English Crowd (3.) The ability to find every inch of space on the ice and the sweaters to sell advertisements.

are their players from Britan? Team GB just has such poor performance internationally that I assumed hockey wouldn’t be any better than baseball there.

I’m sure it would take a while to get used to that match advertising on the ice, but in the long run I wish more sports would do it. It works in NASCAR better field advertising would sure make it easier to broadcast soccer in North America.

They qualified for the tier 1 world championship a year or so ago, playing against the likes of Canada, US, Sweden and Russia so whilst they’re not giants of the international game, they’re not awful either.

Baseball has no footprint over here. Same with American football (sorry). We’ve got a basketball league, although I’m not sure how successful that is because my local team seems to be pretty successful and it probably skews my overall understanding of how popular it is.

Hockey however is the most popular indoor team sport in the UK by attendance, which isn’t bad for a sport that largely gets no coverage in the media until someone dies or gets maimed.
