It also happens on single click (possibly to make changing the text size easy), and you can also highlight by dragging and it’ll work, but I still like to double click to highlight.

Seems like it was designed for touch screens with no regard for people using a mouse.
more like “we forgot to add text size options and we need to release it in 2 days” and the interim dev just slapped together a solution.
