It’s a Thursday again. The worst day of the week. Or is it? Disguised as a Wednesday for those south of the border, and a Tuesday for those of us in the land of the Scots.
What are your moans for this day and this week, the first week of the work year?
Personally, I’ve added app timers to all my time sink apps in an effort to become less dependent on my phone. It’s 9.40am and I’ve already maxed out Megalodon, so I’m onto Lemmy/Voyager. Going well.
Also… I’m still off with the kids. Edinburgh schools didn’t break up until the 22nd of December. Which seemed like a good idea at the time, but we’re paying for it now.
My beleaguered American colleagues largely didn’t vacation over the holiday, so I’m still catching up with their emails and apologising every ten minutes, after a harrowing 9 hour drive back from Cornwall through 80mph gales and road closures courtesy of Henk. I want to smack twenty to fifty people at random.
St. Ives was nice.
St. Ives is amazing!
It’s such a treat. I’d go again in a heartbeat, but next time it’s got to be by train & during summertime.
The train journey is beautiful. I hope you manage to visit in the summer!
Ah, the post holiday email catch-up. I don’t have to deal with this any more because I’m self employed, but when I worked for a company my caffeine intake always increased considerably in those first couple of days back at work.
Sounds nice. I’d go for that, but I worry that I might be a bit of a cunt to work for.
I’m just back from Sainsburys with the kids. I always use “the app” to pay for the shopping, but it crapped out today, no doubt due to the poor phone signal on the store (I’m not using their BT wifi), and I suspect the kids popped a two pack of chocolate croissants into the trolley bypassing my scannage. So it’s not even midday and we are already a family of pastry thieves.
The junior doctors are still on strike (rightly so) which makes work more stressful for the rest of us working short staffed. We’re kind of resigned to it now but there’s not really an end in sight and it just means our patients end up with sub standard care which is all very frustrating. The government really needs to just offer a reasonable deal and pay the people keeping our healthcare system going a decent wage but that’s rather unlikely with our current government I feel.
I’ve had 17 days off in total, using up leave. That was great, but came back this week hoping for a slow start while I actually remembered anything at all about what I am supposed to be getting paid for.
Oh no, not a chance: “Update your budgets by the end of the day!” “Deal with this damage caused by Henk!”, “Your contractors haven’t been paid by accounts, so won’t come out and do anything. Sort it out!”, “We’re auditing your climate actions - update them now!”, “Do your team’s PDRs!” etc etc.
Wait when was Thursday the worst day of the week?
I mean, it’s mostly a joke. Because clearly Monday is. Except for those of us who WFH. I live for Mondays because everyone gets the hell out of my space. Anyway, the daily thread once said Thursday was the worst. So I’m running with it.

Not sure whether it’s a good or bad thing, but it feels like I never left work! Picking back up where I left off.
I tried to clean my inkjet, and instead of just cleaning the one colour that was clogged, I thought I may as well flush all of them and now I’ve completely killed my black printhead.
I was like, screw inkjets then, I’ll buy a laser, but apparently they have a much lower dpi and I’m mostly going to be printing artwork and photo quality and now I don’t know what to do.
The laser I was looking at is 600x2440 dpi. But my current dead inkjet has 5760x1440 which is a massive difference. I print things for miniature houses so the high res is important. What do I do? I hate inkjets because of the clog.
