I’m on Lemmy.ml and am anything but a “tankie”. Love it here. Tonnes of tech/varied posts in my main subscribed feed and I’ve never noticed anything other than a minimal dose of drama…Facebook or Reddit are much more toxic in comparison which is part of the reason I left those places.

I just wiped Windows from my drive yesterday and committed to Fedora after dualbooting for 15 years…I’ve been maining Fedora for a while and always kept Windows around “just in case”, but never actually seemed to need it. This recall/AI spyware was it for me though. Gaming has been a breeze for a while on Fedora/Linux due to Steam/Proton…such a great feeling to finally be completely rid of Windows!
Mine are 5 and 3 and from what I gather from other parents, I have the most draconian rules of them all 😅. My kids watch very little TV…only a little before bed. They can start playing on their tablets for a bit before that, but they only have educational games (G-Compris and Khan Academy Kids, etc.) and a few other FOSS ones. I’ve tried teaching them to use a controller to play some SNES/N64 games on my Retropie with no luck…but according to my son’s SK teacher, that’s not such a bad thing. Just trying to avoid them turning into tech zombies as much as I can…they’re pretty much living as close to the 90s upbringing I had as possible haha
There are other privacy-respecting trackers that could be used for app improvement. At the end of the day, Google profits from the data collected here, and Lemmy has a big community of users looking to avoid this. Tangentially, Google also has massive contracts with the Israeli military that have recently come under fire in the news…just another reason to use different app-improvement trackers if the goal is to truly boycott/divest, etc.
Looks like it has Google AdMob, CrashLytics, and Firebase Analytics trackers…as well as FB Share according to Exodus. While I totally support the cause, this app is definitely tracking/profiting off of it’s users behind the scenes.
…but doesn’t the use of an AI chat bot to answer questions/give suggestions defeat the entire purpose of engaging with other people on "Face"book?
Definitely true, but I think the problem is there’s no DNS out there that blocks everything you want. I’ve never found a DNS resolver that blocks my TV’s telemetry domains, for instance. A pi-hole on a RPi runs super cheap so the quick initial setup adding blocklists is super worth it for me at least.
Microscopic Dwemer spiders!
Sawyer tap filters remove 100% of microplastics (which I’m really hoping is legit!). They fit right on your tap and other than looking a bit funny work great. Just replaced my Brita filter with one a few weeks ago.
Pumpkin seeds are a great source of mag (and iron, protein, fiber, etc.) - especially if they are roasted!
Really interesting point! Also, what about babies born via IVF that don’t technically share a womb at the same time, but were from the same “batch” of sperm and eggs?
I think the point is to draw global attention to the severity and urgency of climate change. It’s such a crisis that the head of the UN is trying to draw attention to it which, I think, is much better for climate change than no attention at all…
Dragon Age: Origins. Haven’t played since it’s release and wanted something in the same vein as the original Baldur’s Gate…does not disappoint!
Agreed - and Bluey rocks!
Definitely hear you there, but wrong flatpak 😉
I use Shelter from F-Droid to create a work profile and then install RethinkDNS on that profile which blocks any trackers from the “bad” apps (you can add a tonne of blocklists). Additionally, if you have a Pixel, GrapheneOS has total app isolation (including storage scopes) so Messenger only has access to what you allow.
No worries! Strange of them to put a deadline…I agree the hardware is pretty solid!
Yes! So glad someone else though of this 😎
