This is the first comment about switching to Linux that makes me feel positively about the idea
While I don’t necessarily agree in this case, you did remind me of something Justice Kirby (an Australia Hugh Court (our highest court) Judge) wrote in his dissent in Carr v Western Australia.^1
“He was a smart alec for whom it is hard to feel much sympathy. But the police were public officials bound to comply with the law. We should uphold the appellant’s rights because doing so is an obligation that is precious for everyone. It is cases like this that test this Court. It is no real test to afford the protection of the law to the clearly innocent, the powerful and the acclaimed.”

I did the exact same!
Wait, you have to pay to use your phone as a hotspot?!
How small are the pineapples in Texas? Because a can of Monster is not the same size of any pineapple I’ve seen.
If we just got rid of the Himalayas everything would even out! /s
While I understand that others have different priorities with phones, I’ve never quite understood why Lemmy is so enraged by the absence of a headphone jack…
I prefer wireless headphones. When I had wired headphones I used to regularly yank my phone off the counter when cooking, or try to walk away from my desk while tethered by a cord.
If I did ever need to use wired headphones, using an adapter isn’t that big a deal to me. Although I’d probably have to use a magnetic adaptor so that when I inevitably forget that I’m connected to it and walk away, my phone/entire desktop doesn’t come with me.
Particularly an issue when you’re googling an obscure software issue, you just get spammed with the same copy/paste “troubleshooting” steps. Which usually boil down to “reinstall this completely unrelated driver”.
Just reading this caused a small spike of ice cold fury within my soul
I remember on reddit once someone from the US complaining about people assuming their bar had EFTPOS machines/pay wave saying “You wouldn’t go to the grocery store without your wallet?!”
And me, in Australia just being like…but… I do? I almost never take my wallet with me to the grocery store…
(Although, because my student public transport card is the only thing I can’t put on my phone, going out for drinks is one of the few times I’m almost guaranteed to have my wallet) (also because I want to have backups if something goes wrong while I’m inebriated)
I needed to see this, just in general, today
Thanks for letting me know that that community exists! It’s one of my favourite subreddit so there being a Lemmy alternative is great news!
I’d also really recommend the New Zealand and Australian versions! (NZ Series 1 takes a bit to find it’s groove but Series 2 is probably my favourite series of any Taskmaster)
Sorry for the over enthusiastic reply, this morning my friend got us both tickets to the Australian Series 3 studio record and I’m very excited about it…

Since I watched Series 4 in 2021, I don’t think a week has gone by that I haven’t watched an episode, or at least a clip, of some iteration of Taskmaster.
Such a lovely show!
My only issue with Cowboy Bebop is that my brain autocorrects it to Cowbop Beboy.
I know it’s less scary than the others, but I also really fucking love Bly Manor.
Also, I recently rewatched Lake Mungo and saw a lot of similarities with Nell’s story from Hill House. Turns out Mike Flanagan has said that Lake Mungo was an inspiration!
Barely related; but I use a square of astroturf to stop my cat tracking which works really well! Unfortunately, because it made the place look so aggressively, manufactured suburban green, I was forced to create a whole
My cat rarely bothers us about food. But if we’ve not played with him, or toured the (exterior, communal building) hallway in the last few hours…he doth scream.
And I’m pretty sure he uses his abs when meowing because the boi can project!
