  • I don’t know, I use GH copilot every day. Not to generate whole blocks of code but as autocomplete. It more often than not can finish my sentence for me. It’s makes wrong assumptions some times but it most definitely saves me time. I was just using an IDE today not set up for copilot and it made me realize how much I miss it when its gone.

  • I’m on the side of social cooperation but this “argument” is pretty damn flimsy.

Scenario 1: I donate to some go-fund-me to pay for some kids medical treatment Scenario 2: I say “we should all be forced to pay for public healthcare for all”

I personally am very much in favor of the latter, but being happy about #1 and against #2 is not some kind of crazy cognitive dissonance.

  • Shutup still works but I wouldn’t trust it to prevent all telemetry. I wouldn’t trust Microsoft not to have other telemetry that’s not part of their services that can be turned off.

Just my 2 cents: I dual boot Windows and Linux. I only start up Windows when I want to play a game, use Linux Mint for everything else. Some games run perfectly fine under Linux (I play a lot of Factorio for example. No Mans Sky I’ve had no issues etc.) but some are just a pain. For those I switch to Windows and then immediately switch back when I’m done playing.

It’s not ideal but this way Windows has next to no information about me at least. And as times goes on I’m seeing more and more games running just fine under Linux. Maybe one day I’ll be able to drop Windows completely.

  • Most of the hate is coming from people who don’t really know anything about “AI” (LLM) Which makes sense, companies are marketing dumb gimmicks to people who don’t need them and, after the novelty wore off, aren’t terribly impressed by them.

But LLMs are absolutely going to be transformational in some areas. And in a few years they may very well become useful and usable as daily drivers on your phone etc, it’s hard to say for sure. But both the hype and the hate are just kneejerk reactionary nonsense for the moment.

Same. I keep hearing folks mention this but it’s not like AI developers aren’t aware of this (apart from a bunch of shitty startups that would fail no matter what) One way to deal with it for example is Microsoft is shelling out so much for “pre-AI” datasets (Reddit) but I’m sure there’s a lot more of those kinds of initiatives.

Google on the other hand is going to be hard pressed to deal with the ever increasing deluge of AI spam.

Some company decided to change their logo because it looks dated and might give the wrong impression. How is this even a problem?

As for liberals causing problems, yeah maybe they go a bit too far some times and can be over sensitive. But the other side is literally trying to take us back to theocracy, where women only have the rights their husbands will allow them. They’re not even pretending otherwise any more. I’ll take oversensitive over that any day.
