I try to always remember People, process and product. PPP. It helps remind me that the people are just like you and I, families and waking up each day to do a job. It’s so easy for things to fall apart when there aren’t the right tools or processes in place. My failures individually or as a team never left someone in outer space but I’ve had some doozies in my career.
This isn’t addressing your comment but I guess it was on my mind. I do know that the majority of people want to do their best and I feel bad for them and those affected by a company’s poor decisions.
I’m not qualified in any sense to speculate, and so that’s exactly what I’m going to do.
My first thought is that there is a configuration happening to bring it home which we already knew, and there is a bug or test tone that was activated and since no one writing the code is there, they just didn’t notice it is still running.
No one wants to be on the losing side. Not that this election is a sure thing, but people shift with the wind and then tell themselves they “called” it.
I had an Intel s2600 with dual Xeon and 120 gigs of RAM. It seems like such a good idea to run that as a home server. However, the amount of power that it used because it was older was way too much.
I ended up hunting on eBay and found an old Asus motherboard, Intel chip, ram, and a pny Nvidia card.
I bought refurb hard drives from serverpartdeals and a new case from Amazon.
I recommend starting with a chassis you want and working backwards to help narrow your scope.
I know you wanted smaller but heres what I bought. SilverStone Technology CS382… https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0CKTYSZV9?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Also, I run truenas scale with a bunch of apps. Ssd z1 for os. Ssd z1 for transcode and caches. And then 4 drive set for main storage and another 4 drive set for backup of the first set.
Agreed. I’m just glad no one is filming me when I’m working on things. It’s not that I can’t figure things out but it takes some trial and error.
I watch the channel with that in mind, he’s me in a sense … Trying to reforest 300 something acres. He seems like a smart guy though and making progress. It’s all cumulative work so it’ll pick up I’m sure after a year of growth.
I’ve been watching DustUps ranch on YouTube. Some guy bought wasteland in Texas and is doing this and other stuff to create a forest.
Definitely not an instructional channel because there is a lot that goes wrong so far but he learns as he goes and seems to have a good plan now.
I use simplelogin but mostly I still use an email that provides aliases. I break things up into five or six main groups. Content like games and streaming, shopping, social media, and a few others. This works as a general grouping for bookmarks, passwords, note taking, and emails.
I felt using a simplelogin alias for every site was out of control. For me personally I just need it a bit simpler.
Mildly related by the topic. I’m playing ghost recon breakpoint and a bunch of the main characters are hiding in a huge cave. My character said something like “do you have a computer?” And the NPC replied, “I live in a cave, I’m not a cave man” .
Sorry I wasn’t clear.
Fallout 4 is beloved and buggy as hell. Cyberpunk was buggy, and still has bugs but is completely playable over and over again and with my hundreds of hours, I haven’t run into any game killing glitches.
Been playing on and off for years (beat it every way, every ending, 100% most of everything).
It’s less glitchy than fallout 4. Even if there are bugs, they are not game ending or even that difficult to move on.
The game, the dlc, the paid dlc… I thought all of it was incredible and I had an absolutely amazing time playing. I think I’m around 800 hours, but a few hundred were on stadia.
Anyway, if you’re having issues, delete it all, try again and give it a shot. The difference between release and now is large.
Same!!! We stayed up all night playing this game non-stop over the summer in Sega. We would play Mario Cart until our fingers hurt and then switch to Sega and chill for the rest of the night.
Temu is different because they allow a seller to say I’ll make plastic dog shit toys by November 1. So it goes on sale in September and 100, 000 people order it. Now the company makes a single batch and knows exactly how many to make and what materials to buy. It’s smart. That’s why they want your friends involved because it lowers the price more to make more at once.
I’m not defending the company but it is a smart way and less costly and wasteful than making 100, 000 dog shit toys and selling 10, throwing the other 999,990 in the local river and writing it off on taxes.
I use a leaf. Similar to regular razer but uses the same blades as safety razer. So the method and form factor didn’t change for me. It’s metal and will last me a long time.
I want to like mastodon but I don’t want to do the leg work of finding accounts. I like the algorithm to some extent, I want help to find things.
I also have trouble deciding how to support the post. Liking doesn’t do anything and tooting or whatever puts it on my page. I don’t feel part of the community boosting topics I like.
I like voting things up and down.
Maybe I’m doing it wrong but I try and get instantly bored because I have to hunt for everything. I really tried.
I’m in NY, banned grocery bags a while ago and old people constantly removed about it still, and joke about the state taking something else mundane next.
It’s so stupid and I just roll my eyes, paper bags work just fine and its like $0.05 cents a bag at checkout. My jar of tomato sauce has shrunk by 6oz and gone up $2 but it’s plastic bags and the 5 cent paper bags that are the problem right?
Anyway I’m ranting. Enjoy not having plastic bags floating around your streets and parking lots.
Yep sorry I wasn’t specific and thank you for clarifying. Auto forward so like I want my girlfriend to receive all my Walmart+ emails which doesn’t let you have accounts like Amazon. So I forward all emails. Had to keep my Gmail to just make it easy. I’m sure there’s a more complicated setup but it’s Walmart… I just need email to get to both of us about orders.
It’s like this because it’s secure, there’s was good reason they didn’t have this feature. But it’s inconvenient and I’m not using Proton because I’m a secret agent, I just to want to pay for a product instead of being the product.
Couldn’t forward emails until about a month ago.
Their drive app backs up only the computer it’s on and other computers cant access that backup. It’s like a sectioned off part. Or I can upload files that any of my devices can access.
Their calendar has some problems with compatibility of run into and it’s things that the person on either side can’t change. Not world ending but it’s really annoying.
They literally just added the ability to automatically add holidays to the calendar. And of course I had set it up about a month prior so I manually entered everything.
The proton drive app for your phone doesn’t automatically back up anything.
I’m not shitting on proton because I’m an active proton unlimited subscriber and I use a bunch of their services, but I also recognize the flaws and how it’s not as seamless as Google yet, which I don’t expect it to be.
I also wish they had some better Linux support in preaching to the choir with that.
Love their vpn and the netshield features. Email works great and I love knowing I can read an email and automatically have trackers blocked. Aliases are great but I use their simple login site free with my proton subscription too. So my point is I like them lots, but it’s not a complete Google replacement yet.
Pixelfed is federated and the app is pretty good. It’s an Instagram alternative. May be nice to have a designated spot for all your work.
At least for me, if I see something I like, I dig deeper to see what else they have.
Regardless of how you post now or in the future, thanks for sharing.
