  • Thanks for the link to Common Crawl; I didn’t know about that project but it looks interesting.

That’s also an interesting point about heavily curated data sets. Would something like that be able to overcome some of the bias in current models? For example, if you were training a facial recognition model, access a curated, open source dataset that has representative samples of all races and genders to try and reduce the racial bias. Anyone training a facial recognition model for any purpose could have a training set that can be peer reviewed for accuracy.

  • I feel like this is part of a Republican long game - make their states so unpalatable to progressives that they move out, thus ensuring that the US Senate and House are never again under Democratic control. It’s like a for of self-imposed gerrymandering for Democrats, packing themselves into the few states with liberal legislaturea and policies.

Of course, those blue states will continue to subsidize the red states through tax dollars and federal programs, but that’s another issue entirely.

  • "Right to Life of Michigan President Barbara Listing announced the litigation Wednesday as several thousand anti-abortion activist protested on the state Capitol grounds.

“The provisions asserted to be unconstitutional under federal law threaten legal protections for pregnant women seeking healthcare, the rights of physicians to care for patients, and the rights of parents already under attack on many fronts,” Listing said in a statement. “At issue is also the sweeping disenfranchisement both of Michigan voters and of the authority of the legislature in the days and years ahead.”"

What kind of bizarro world bullshit is that? Their own lawsuit is what threatens to disenfranchise voters!
