I get quite a bit of flak from my colleagues for paying for search, but I kid you not, I don’t regret splurging on a Kagi subscription at all. It’s personally less stressful for me, having to wade through less cruft, and I think I even work significantly faster because of how I use it.

It’s sad when you think about it. Search was such a good experience in the past.

Yeah I just wish the lemmy ONI community was a bit more active. I should be above 2K hours in now too, and I haven’t won yet. My current run I’m trying to get up to 20 dupes while also trying my first attempt at something magma power.

I’m admittedly not as knowledgeable about it as I’d like, but I also have a similar system. A primary encrypted Linux partition wuth a dualboot into Windows for times I absolutely need to go into it (which admittedly has been coming up less and less).

What I tell myself is that, sure, in the best case that everything works as I’d like, the rootkit can never bleed into the Linux side of stuff, and I’m really only ever at risk when I’m actively on the Windows, and even then if Riot remains a good citizen, nothing will happen. It’s an (increasingly) small window of vulnerability.

Thing is, I’ve seen complete systems go down because of “small windows of vulnerabilities” before. Catastrophic failures, more times than I’d have liked. Who knows, maybe someday someone manages to exploit that window and use it to, for example, piggyback into your home network and access your devices. I dunno, call me paranoid.

In my head, installing something like a kernel anticheat is really not worth it. It’s a huge over reach of privilege for so little gain for the user. And frankly, I don’t trust Riot to be a good citizen with that much privilege on my machine.

I’m with you there. This league’s been really great so far. I’m looking forward to seeing how others use the new gem variants.

I’ve been having difficulty joining private trackers as well, but mostly I’ve just been trying to apply to a few that I think I’d like to join. Don’t quite understand why I don’t get an invite though. I maintain a perma up seedbox, and wouldve thought that was mostly what’s important for private trackers.

As someone who’s having a bit of difficulty finding great incremental games, would you mind giving aome recommendations?

I moved to Proton from Gmail + friends, and I don’t regret it one bit. I’ve tried degoogling, and while that hasn’t always been successful, email and calendar have been two of the absolute simplest things to leave behind in Google.

One (quite unknown) perk you get with certain Proton plans is you also get access to SimpleLogin, which is an email proxy service. It’s great if you set it up on one of your domains, so you can create not just unique passwords but also unique email addresses for accounts you create online.

I’ve set up my Spotify to tell Last.fm what songs I listen to (aka scrobble). Over time, Last.fm gets a pretty good idea of what songs you like, so when I wanna discover new songs, I go to Last.fm, ask it to play me a mix, and direct it to play the songs through my Spotify. I find that its recommendations are much better than what I get from using Spotify alone.

So is Prowlarr an alternative to Jackett? I’ve use Jackett before but it was (as best as I could understand) a way to translate different indexer URIs into a common format.

The public library I go to has tons of communal spaces, as well as a makerspace. I love it!

It’s an ESC key for me personally. Some of my friends with the fancy schmancy keyboards have it so that holding that button down gives their keyboard an additional layer. Like, holding that down will make J/K/L/I work as arrow keys, something like that.

It’s unquantifiable, yes, possibly even placebo at times, but I think of it as paying for the features on top of search. I particularly find being able to create and adopt a search “lens” / focus and the ability to (de)prioritise domains very useful for my situation and needs.

That being said, I totally agree with your sentiment. I also only have limited subscriptions I can practically maintain, and I feel like this one’s earned it’s place well enough. To each their own I guess.

I’ve recently started paying for unlimited searches over on Kagi, and I’m very happy with the results so far. I’d gladly pay if it meant less search cruft and higher result quality, but sadly Google’s just been going downhill for quite a while now.
