Exactly, amazon is a thing because we all don’t have time to run to the store for that one thing that isn’t an emergency. I see it as another way that the " " system " " has boxed us more into the “CONSUME” driven American existence. Like, even if a store is 5 minutes away and you’re getting “one thing” it’s still going to take at least 30 minute commitment especially if that store is say “walmart”. If the store is 15 mins away, you’re basically at an hour commitment.

We don’t have time to do stuff like that anymore! I am trying to weigh that thought and the idea we are all just brainwashed into the immediacy of needing everything now.

Amusingly enough, I bought an small appliance yesterday, amazon had worse deals than a big box store. They had cheaper prices on no name junk that was gonna take a week to get to me. Prime day is total shit.

Exact same situation (Instance been about 3 weeks now). I went back to the alien.site once to make a throw away account to update a community where I had a loose end. Besides that I haven’t been back. I had a alien.site account for like 12 years. Basically was my internet. I am loving it here.

I am committed to federated services from here on out. I am personally really liking lemmy… There are some minor annoyances but nothing major. The mobile browsing experiences makes me pretty cozy. With the dark theme it’s not too far from rif. Apps and plugins are coming that will make it that next special thing. Like I couldn’t imagine aliensite without old and res. It’s coming… I’m loving it.

Yeah Ansible I had to set the path variable and did the ssh key generation. Other than that my lemmy was up and running in like 10 minutes all automated. You can go back and change the config by rebuilding the yaml. It’s not bad at all.

Install wsl for windows Ubuntu default.(can install wsl in PowerShell).

Install Ansible in wsl, create ssh keys to your VPS, follow those instructions.

On my Ubuntu server I did literally nothing but the ssh key generation.

Yup, I had the same question and was frustrated I was missing so many comments from instances that were federating. Just leave allowed blank and then block the bad ones unless your really concerned about bad instance actors.
