Admin of kbin.earth, creator of Interstellar.
One of them, r/startpages, I tried to start a community on kbin.social, but it really never caught on. Maybe I should have posted more, which might have encouraged others to post. It was actually pretty active on Reddit, with 20k subscribers, but once the API fiasco hit last year, they decided to close down the sub and move to kbin, which obviously didn’t catch on, so the whole community died.
Honestly, I’d kind of like to create a niche community (or two) but wouldn’t really know where to start. I still follow some smaller subs from Reddit, but I feel like there just wouldn’t be any user engagement over here (if I tried to start one here), considering how small they are in the first place.
Anyway, I think it’s amazing how fast you were able to grow !dataisbeautiful@mander.xyz in less than a week!
It’s a link to an article I found interesting. It basically details why we’re still using 64-bit CPUs, just as you mentioned.
Same with kbin.earth. Unfortunately, one problem with the fediverse is that everything (users, magazines, posts, comments, etc.) is tied to the instance’s domain, so it can’t really be changed at all.
Thanks for the interest. So far, I’ve only had one (or maybe two) other person(s) ask about iOS support, so I haven’t really looked much into it so far.
I could set up a donation page (like GitHub sponsors), but my guess is that it would receive nowhere near the amount of an Apple Developer account ($100 a year).
I also don’t have an iPhone or Mac. I should be able to get around the Mac by using a VM (I’ve done it before), but it is a pain.
Hey, if there’s already a stable api available, I’d be willing to add piefed support to the Interstellar app.
Have you tried sterling pdf? It has a ton of PDF tools and it’s Foss.
I think the spacing for the cards might need to be adjusted anyway, but yeah, some sort of dense layout mode would be good to add.
If you have any feedback for Interstellar (the only Mbin app I know of), please share. I use the app daily, and it works great for my use case, but I don’t automatically know what other people would like until they communicate it. (I’m the dev, btw)
Looks interesting. Would kbin support be added at some point?
Agreed
Also, someone should make a dedicated community to Linus Torvalds quotes.
You can have only one installed, and Fedora KDE ships this way. If your distro doesn’t offer that, it seems like a distro packaging issue.
Thanks for the info; it does look like that’s how my distro packages it.
make it easier to change file associations for common file types
That’s in Plasma 6. :)
That’s awesome to hear! It’s a problem I’ve had for a while, so I’m glad it’s being worked on.
Anyway, I just want to say I really appreciate all the work y’all have done over the years; I’ve been using plasma for the past 6-7 years, and it’s a desktop environment like no other.
Thanks for the AUA and all the work on KDE, especially with plasma 6.
It’s not really a question, more of a request, but is it possible you all could make the kwrite/kate situation less complicated? I don’t mind having options, but from what I understand, you can only have them both installed (or none), not one or the other. Also, if I want Kwrite to be the default editor, I have to go into every supported mime type (file association) and switch the default (instead of just once for all of them).
My preference would be that there’s only one text editor (to cause less confusion; maybe just have a toggle button to switch between basic and advanced modes), and to make it easier to change file associations for common file types (like text files, video files, music, images, etc.); even if it’s technically a different file format, e.g. .mp4 vs .mkv for videos, I should only have to set the default app once.
kbin has the Interstellar app, for android: github.com/jwr1/interstellar
I second EndeavourOS. Nothing beats the arch wiki and arch user repository, and combining that with the easy and sane install of EndeavourOS makes it an almost perfect distro.
Looks amazing! Can’t wait to try it out.
