MLS Season Pass will feature an enhanced production for Inter Miami CF’s matches during Leagues Cup, including 18 cameras, Steadicam, four super slow-motion cameras, Skycam, a drone, sideline reporters in Spanish and English, a dedicated one-hour pregame show on site with features, interviews and expert analysis, and a postgame show to wrap things up.

When asked to comment about improving broadcasting for the other 28 clubs in MLS, Garner is reported to have said “there are other clubs?”

Sometimes even I wonder what kind of drugs those players’ managers must be on to do stuff like that to a player. I mean, he will get good money. But he would get that anywhere. What sold him on this project?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not doing the European football fans shits on the US league thing. I wish the MLS success and growth but this looks like a bad idea no matter which league it takes place in

My theory is that MLS gave him the Beckham deal – a discounted price on an MLS expansion fee if he ever decides to buy an expansion side – and that they sold him on the growth of the sport in the US, rather than on Inter Miami specifically, and they chose Miami as the club he would play for because he already owned a home in Miami, not because he cares about the project. But I’m not privy to any of the discussions, so that’s all baseless speculation.

And no worries, you don’t have to hate US soccer to shit on Miami – it’s pretty easy even for true believers.

Sounds very possible to me, your theory. And isn’t that what we’re here for? ;)

I could also joke that he is used to pink jerseys after Barcelona.

The Athletic has a good rundown of how the deal came about (paywall).

      • Closer to home (Argentina)
      • In a city he knows and has a home in
      • Media coverage and fans will be essentially universally fawning, compared to the pressure cooker of Europe
      • Will extend his brand to America in a massive way, positioning him to have access to the market (ads, involvement in soccer franchises, etc) for his post retirement career
      • 50-60M in salary, way below what others were offering, but also getting paydays from Adidas and Apple for undisclosed amounts
      • equity in Inter Miami as a club

      Also

      • not in Saudi Arabia
