A place worth avoiding except to be excited and take part in the trans community there.

Outside of that, hexbear has been known to be full of tankies with fantastic opinions like “Russia is justified in invading the Ukraine”

People here will be salty about me saying it but I think they’re the most trans positive instance. I say this as someone that looks at everything trans related from lemmy.ml on purpose so I can check in on everyone

I feel like people have a lot of unexamined transphobia and thats why they’re angry about hexbear, hexbear rabidly defends their trans users. Then of course people just parrot hearsay when hexbear dogpiles someone for being transphobic. Hexbear also defederates from other instances a lot (either because Hexbear considers an instance transphobic or w.e. or because that instance hates dogpiles) so obviously Hexbear people can’t defend themselves from slander.

Hexbear is very inclusive to trans people that align with its ideology, but it actively allows harassment and “dunking” of anyone, including trans people, who don’t align with its ideology. In my opinion, it’s hard to be the most inclusive trans instance when you are only inclusive of some trans people, and are willing to harass the rest.

Are liberal trans people inclusive and trans positive? I can’t say they are when they support neverending wars overseas and jerk off to war criminals that have undoubtedly killed, maimed, or otherwise harmed many trans people, e.g. Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Kamala Harris, etc.

‘Dunking’ on them is a pittance in comparison to support for slaughtering our own community.

Personally, I think you should rethink how you think about your own instance, 196 is a cesspool and its clear that most trans people find it offputting. I first heard of y’all as the ‘trans friendly’ instance and looked at your front page and saw a complete shitshow on the front page (re: ONLY 196), and obviously you aren’t federated with all trans spaces so I chose to go to lemmy instead.

This statement is at odds with the claim that they’re the most trans inclusive instance around.

Hexbear is incredibly protective of trans folk that share its views, but it green lights active harassment of trans folk not in that group.

An instance that is ok with harassment of some trans folk isn’t as protective as you’re claiming.

Did you not read what I said? Are you that steeped in ideology?

Liberals support things that are far worse than harassment, they cannot be allowed to support neoliberal ideology in trans spaces without those trans spaces becoming cesspools of reactionary and bigoted thought. Are you ok with trans nazis being here so long as they don’t harass anyone? Where does your umbrella end? Indirect support for killing trans people?

Rather than just banning trans folk who don’t align with their politics, or targeting their political ideas, Hexbear actively enables dogpiling and harassing of individual trans folk

That’s not the behaviour of “the most trans positive instance”, especially given that Hexbears political ideology is fringe at best, making the majority of trans people valid targets for its harassment.

Don’t get me wrong. Hexbear is incredibly supportive of its trans folk. It’s why I tried to make federation with them work for so long. But it’s only supportive of its own trans folk. If you don’t align with their political stance, you get harassment, not support.

You absolutely keep dodging the questions I’m asking, are you ok with fascist trans people?

And no, socialism is absolutely not fringe in the trans community. Maybe in your weird little bubble of liberals and transphobes it is, but in trans places IRL socialism is absolutely what is most common. In fact, its not even fucking close.

(Cis guy but can offer an answer to this) Hexbear is quite a large instance that was unfederated for a long time. It also has a strong and specific political leaning and a very particular instance culture. The combination of these factors has caused more than a little friction between hexbear and other instances - something I say with no intention to assign blame to hexbear specifically. While I have personally had plenty of what I will politely call strong disagreements with hexbear users I do think that the majority of it is innocent. It’s a big instance with a brash culture and strong opinions, so a lot of people’s experience with hexbear was “a lot of loud dogpiling anyone that disagreed with them” even though the hexbear users were just earnestly interacting with the fediverse as usual. This resulted in a whole heap of defederations, and pawb.social is apparently among the group that did that

That’s one of the reasons I chose Pawb! Also, I am willing to blame them. A tiny little six-post thread gets thirteen pages in like an hour and it’s all Hexbear users spewing memes and BS, making assumptions and attacking people? Yeah no, I don’t need that. They can stay swimming in their cesspool of memes and derision; I’ll have to scrape by out here with all’ these horrible people who don’t think and speak exactly like hexbears. It really was extreme and I don’t miss it.

Seems kinda goofy calling it “just earnestly interacting,” honestly.

I mean yeah I do think there are a lot of genuine arseholes there. I just want to be clear that despite my personal disagreements with them, I don’t think those clashes are usually actual coordinated brigadings, and I’m hedging my language specifically because I’m aware that I personally find several of the people there quite unpleasant
