  • This is not the case.

The Lemmy devs decided to make federation either whitelist oriented or blacklist oriented by an admin setting. Blacklist oriented means that your server will federate with all servers it hears of except ones the admins block, whitelist is the opposite, the admin has to federate on purpose.

Since Lemmy is developed by and widely used by whiny tittybaby communists who plug their ears any time someone says something they don’t chant to themselves daily already, whitelist based federation is the most common way the other instances do it. As a result, most of the other servers know about this one.

  • So here’s the thing with an “introduction” community… It isolates newcomers from the actual communities they want to engage in. You’ll wind up with an entire community flooded with “hello!” posts, most of which will never post anywhere else again. The people youre trying to interact with won’t notice.

If you want to engage with people online you have to just do it.

  • I’m not quite as cynical. They are trying to do this, yes. And it will work for a time, but they will fail fundamentally. They’ll succeed in some ways, power structures never just fall, but fundamentally they’ll fail for a few very simple reasons.

Bitcoin already has something they can’t undo, that is that it is mined as a cost offset to base load power production. Theyre not going to be able to replace that.

Also, these networks can sit, hardly used for eternity. Their systems have to be profitable or they fail. Theyre forced by the system they’ve created around themselves to think short term. Monero can be used by 2 guys for a decade and still exist and find utility. Our systems will outlast theirs, because ours are just ideas, theirs are systems with necessary inflows and outflows of resources.

And finally, we are beyond regulation. It’s true. The price could go down, all sorts of things can happen, but it can’t be stopped. You can’t stop gun trafficking, drug trafficking, hell even human trafficking sadly, just like you can’t dam up even the tiniest trickle of a stream. We have time on our side and they do not.

They’re not unified. They don’t like each other. They just want to survive and maintain their positions in what comes next. Theyre buying bitcoin and what not just in case, while they in group signal that they dont like it. All of them are. They have to adopt it, the idealistic side of it, because that’s what’s taking over. The scams don’t last, the idealistic projects are still here.

And theyre scrambling to stop it. I truly believe they were blindsided. First they dismissed it, then they realized they need to understand it, now they’re trying to formulate a plan to prevent it and still maintain their positions, but I think theyre losing.

They’re very competent, but they’re not as competent as you think they are or as they think they are. They like to project this idea that they’re all powerful, they have to do that to maintain power and disillusion would be revolutionaries into inaction, but you see challenges to their power throughout history succeed, and massive upheavals follow.
