I’m getting no results when I search on monero.house for a community that lives in another lemmy instance. Why?

According to the documentation:

You can find more communities by browsing different Lemmy instances…When you found a community that you want to follow, enter its URL (e.g. https://feddit.de/c/main) or the identifier (e.g. !main@feddit.de) into the search field of your own Lemmy instance. Lemmy will then fetch the community from its original instance, and allow you to interact with it.

I did this on our monero.house instance (eg searching for https://lemmy.ml/c/asklemmy or https://lemmygrad.ml/c/worldnews), but I get no results

  1. https://monero.house/search/q/https%3A%2F%2Flemmy.ml%2Fc%2Fasklemmy/type/All/sort/TopAll/listing_type/All/community_id/0/creator_id/0/page/1
  2. https://monero.house/search/q/https%3A%2F%2Flemmygrad.ml%2Fc%2Fworldnews/type/All/sort/TopAll/listing_type/All/community_id/0/creator_id/0/page/1

Is this a bug? Or am I doing something wrong?

wait, are you saying that you can’t interact with monero.world from lemmy.ca either? If so, is this some misconfiguration or is monero.world it intentionally siloed?

sorry, I meant monero.house. It looks like the admin isn’t intentionally siloed, but is just hesitant to do it due to previous issues with spam on reddit (though not on lemmy).

          This is not the case.

The Lemmy devs decided to make federation either whitelist oriented or blacklist oriented by an admin setting. Blacklist oriented means that your server will federate with all servers it hears of except ones the admins block, whitelist is the opposite, the admin has to federate on purpose.

Since Lemmy is developed by and widely used by whiny tittybaby communists who plug their ears any time someone says something they don’t chant to themselves daily already, whitelist based federation is the most common way the other instances do it. As a result, most of the other servers know about this one.
